1. Engine

2. Fuel Pump

Trying to start the engine with an empty gas tank can damage one component, the fuel pump. Because, in addition to pumping fuel into the engine, the fuel pump also uses the fuel as a lubricant and coolant. If the fuel pump is forced to run without fuel, the fuel pump can be damaged.
