The dry rot process occurs because of the main material of the tyres such as Forceum tyres, rubber. The tyres themselves have a protective coating of some kind of resin. Over time, the protective layer will thin out and disappear. If it is gone, then the rubber will undergo oxidation and dry out.

If the rubber has dried up, then the tyre will become brittle and even small cracks can form. Think of it like rust, but on the tyres. If it is severe, then of course it cannot be repaired, it must be replaced. There are several main causes of dry rot that Forceum can mention:

1. Ambient Condition

What are the conditions where you park your car or store tyres? Is it hot? Is it exposed to sunlight? Because ambient conditions such as high temperatures and exposure to UV rays can cause dry rot. Weather temperature fluctuations can also encourage dry rot.

2. Unused

Although the goal can be to save money, tyres that are rarely used may even be damaged due to dry rot, especially when they have a load. Moreover, the protective resin from tyres is often active when moving. This will also encourage flat spots on the tyres.

3. Low tyre Pressure

Low tyre pressure will apply pressure to the sidewall of the tyre. If it is too frequent, it will form cracks and dry rot in the sidewall area.

4. Chemical & Liquids

Some liquids and chemicals can damage the tyres, for example, engine oil or improper cleaning fluids. Moreover, some cleaning fluids can remove the protective layer on the tyres.

2. Tidak Digunakan

Meskipun tujuannya bisa jadi untuk menghemat, ban yang jarang dipakai bisa jadi malah rusak karena dry rot, terutama bila memiliki beban. Apalagi, resin pelindung dari ban seringkali aktif ketika bergerak. Hal ini juga akan mendorong terjadinya flat spot pada ban.

3. Tekanan Ban Rendah

Tekanan ban rendah akan memberikan tekanan pada sidewall dari ban. Jika terlalu sering, maka akan membentuk keretakan dan dry rot pada area sidewall.

4. Cairan Kimia

Beberapa cairan dan kimia dapat merusak ban, misalnya oli mesin atau cairan pembersih yang kurang tepat. Apalagi, beberapa cairan pembersih bisa menghilangkan lapisan pelindung pada ban.
